Jan taught for 16 years from pre-school in America to a range of contexts in the UK from Primary to sixth form, managing RE (Religious Education) and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) departments and pastoral care programmes.

10 years as a Local Authority School Improvement Adviser, leading government projects from Healthy Schools to Targeted Mental Health in Schools, and working with schools across the UK and internationally, has given Jan many opportunities to develop programmes relating mental and emotional health to learning.

She is also a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and brought these areas of expertise together to create Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE (for ages 3-16) https://www.jigsawpshe.com now reaching over 2 million children worldwide.

She is passionate about doing all she can to improve the life chances of children and young people by empowering them to build and sustain their mental health and to love learning.

In 2020 her work was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, when she was awarded an MBE for Services to Education and children’s mental health.
