Advent Resources

Celebrate Advent in your classroom with our FREE resources!
Advent is a season of anticipation, reflection, and celebration. For Christians, it is a time to prepare for the coming of Christ, both in the story of Christmas and in daily life. Traditionally marked by the lighting of candles on the Advent wreath, each week focuses on themes that inspire hope, peace, joy, love, and light.
In the classroom, Advent provides a unique opportunity to explore these timeless values with your pupils. It encourages children to pause, reflect, and connect with the deeper meanings behind the festive season. Through creative activities, meaningful discussion, and practical acts of kindness, children can experience the joy of giving, the importance of community, and the wonder of seasonal traditions.
Our Advent resources bring these ideas to life, helping children engage thoughtfully with Christian traditions while developing empathy, creativity, and a sense of wonder. Whether you’re leading an RE lesson, class reflection, or a whole-school celebration, these resources provide ready-to-use ideas to make Advent both meaningful and memorable.

Advent Resources
This engaging pack of activities from Jigsaw RE is designed to help children explore the Christian tradition of Advent through creativity, reflection, and fun. Structured around the five candles of the Advent wreath – Hope, Peace, Joy, Love, and Light – each section includes thought-provoking videos about Christian traditions, reflective questions, and hands-on activities.
Inside you’ll find:
- Daily activities on slides that can work as a short seasonally themed session, or can be combined and extended as longer themed lessons. Ideal at this time of year when you may have timetable gaps to fill or need extra ideas for those covering your class
- Creative projects such as Hope Chains, Peaceful Drawings and Light Lanterns
- Reflection prompts to encourage children to connect Advent themes with their own lives and communities
- Practical kindness challenges that extend learning beyond the classroom into real acts of compassion
- A Whole School Assembly on Christmas Traditions Around the World, helping children appreciate diversity within the Christian worldview
These resources are ideal for RE lessons, class worship, or whole-school assemblies during December. They encourage pupils to reflect deeply, express themselves creatively, and put Advent values into action – fostering a joyful, thoughtful classroom atmosphere throughout the season.
