World Book Day 2026

Celebrate Reading with Jigsaw PSHE and World Book Day® 2026

We are proud to be partnering again with World Book Day 2026, celebrating reading for fun in all its forms – including listening, watching, imagining, sharing – supports wellbeing, belonging, and emotional growth in children and young people.

Books can connect us. They help us understand ourselves, explore new worlds, and strengthen our sense of belonging.

Together, Jigsaw Education Group and World Book Day have created free, ready-to-use resources for schools to use in partnership with their wider community including parents, carers and families. They have been designed to link reading for pleasure with PSHE and whole-school wellbeing.

A Partnership Rooted in Wellbeing and Belonging

World Book Day and Jigsaw are committed to ‘Reading for Fun’ where we can help to support children to find the fun in reading. We want to celebrate every kind of reader, from book lovers to audiobook listeners, comic collectors to digital storytellers.

At Jigsaw, we believe that books do more than entertain, they help children recognise their emotions, understand others, and feel part of something bigger.

This partnership connects reading for pleasure with PSHE and emotional wellbeing, bringing together two missions:

  • World Book Day’s focus on joyful, inclusive engagement with books
  • Jigsaw’s expertise in self-awareness, empathy, and mindfulness in learning

Together, we have developed flexible, age-appropriate activities that help pupils reflect, discover, connect, and celebrate reading in all their forms.

Read, Reflect, and Connect - Primary Resources

Fun, inclusive, and ready to use, these resources help children see how books can echo their experiences and open doors to new discoveries.

Our Resource Pack Includes:

  • Launch Assembly – Books as Echoes and Explorations – an interactive assembly with script and slides introducing how stories help us feel, connect, and grow.
  • Mindful Reading Moments – Five guided reflections to help pupils slow down, notice emotions, and link reading to wellbeing.
  • Book Collector Cards – Through an activity, children design visual cards showing their reading choices and emotional responses.
  • Book Swap Stations – Themed around the NHS Five Steps to Wellbeing, the book swap encourages kindness, curiosity, and shared discovery across the whole school.
  • Family & Community Book Swaps – Extend the celebration with parents, carers, and local libraries with guidance on arranging book swaps.

Each resource supports emotional literacy, fosters relationships belonging, and increases engagement – all key elements of Jigsaw PSHE.
