Jigsaw and Forestry England support Mental Health Awareness Week

Nature and Wellbeing Activity Packs for Schools
Spending time outdoors can make a real difference to children’s wellbeing.
Our nature and wellbeing activity pack encourage moments spent noticing nature, moving in fresh air and pausing to reflect can help children feel calmer, more focused and more connected to the world around them.
To support schools, Jigsaw Education Group and Forestry England have partnered to create two free Nature and Wellbeing activity packs for children aged 3–11 – a great pack to support Mental Health Awareness Week (11th – 17th May).
Designed for Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, the packs offer simple, practical activities that help children explore nature while learning techniques to support their mental and physical wellbeing.
The activities are easy to use in school grounds, playgrounds, parks or woodland spaces, making it simple for teachers to bring meaningful outdoor experiences into the school day.
What's included
The packs are designed to help children connect with nature through movement, observation and reflection.
Inside you will find activities such as:
- Noticing nature – sensory activities that encourage children to slow down and observe the natural world
- Move like nature – mindful movement inspired by animals, trees and natural environments
- Nature buddy – helping children develop a sense of care and connection with plants, trees or outdoor spaces
- Nature journals and wellbeing cards – prompts to help children reflect on their experiences and feelings
The activities have been created with teachers in mind. They require minimal equipment, are easy to adapt for different ages and can be used in almost any outdoor setting.
A partnership supporting children’s wellbeing
These resources have been created through a partnership between Forestry England and Jigsaw Education Group, two organisations that share a deep belief in the importance of helping children feel connected — to themselves, to others and to the natural world.
By combining Forestry England’s expertise in nature connection and outdoor forest environments with Jigsaw’s experience supporting children’s wellbeing through PSHE and whole-school approaches, the resources offer schools practical ways to help children experience the wellbeing benefits of time spent outdoors.
Together, we hope these activities inspire schools and families to see nature as a powerful space for reflection, curiosity and wellbeing.
