Could Your School Become the Heart of Your Community?

Simple Changes for Easier Parental Engagement with Parentkind
Please join us for these two webinars with Racheal Smith from Parent Kind
Strong parental engagement starts with building meaningful relationships, creating a sense of belonging and making it easier for families to get involved. In this two-part webinar series with Parentkind, explore practical ways to strengthen home-school relationships, improve communication and build community partnerships that support children, families and schools. Discover simple, realistic changes you can put into practice straight away, whatever stage of education you work in.
1st December 2026
Webinar 1 - What could we change to make parental engagement easier?
Parents matter enormously to children’s outcomes, but strong home-school relationships don’t happen by accident.
Parentkind’s National Parent Survey 2026 found that 85% of parents want to be more involved in their child’s school, yet only 53% say their school listens to parents. At the same time, national research with teachers found that 98% believe teachers should be trained to communicate with families, and 82% would like more training themselves.
So, what can busy school staff do differently?
Join Racheal Smith, Head of Parent Friendly Schools at Parent Kind. Racheal has worked in schools for 20 years, 10 of which were in leadership. She completed four years of further research on the role of core values in effective learning. This will be a practical 30-minute session exploring simple changes that can make parents feel more welcome, heard and able to participate.
We will explore:
- Practical ways to build trust before problems arise
- How to make communication genuinely two-way rather than simply sending more information
- Small changes in language and behaviour that can prevent conversations becoming confrontational
- Ways to remove common barriers including time, confidence, language and previous negative experiences of school
- Examples of effective practice already being used by Parent-Friendly Schools
You will leave with realistic ideas you can put into practice immediately, whether you work in Early Years, Primary or Secondary education.

Webinar 2 - Could your school become the beating heart of your community?
Schools cannot solve every challenge facing children and families. Nor should they have to.
But they can become brilliant at connecting families with the people, organisations and opportunities around them.
Join Parent-Friendly Schools for a practical session exploring how a strong community-based strategy can help schools reach more parents, strengthen belonging and bring additional support around children.
The Parent-Friendly Schools Blueprint identifies community partnerships as one of the five essential drivers of strong parent participation. The strongest schools do more than signpost families. They reach out into their communities, build relationships with trusted organisations and increasingly become places where families can access support.
We will explore:
- How to map the organisations, services and community leaders already surrounding your school
- How trusted community partners can help schools engage under-represented families
- Moving from occasional signposting to purposeful, strategic partnerships
- Practical examples of partnerships that support children’s learning, attendance, wellbeing and family life
You will leave with a simple framework for thinking differently about your local community and identifying the partnerships most likely to make a difference.
