Storytelling in RE/RVE: Bringing Encounter, Experience and Express to Life

Jigsaw Team

Join our RE/RVE webinar 'Storytelling in RE/RVE: Bringing Encounter, Experience and Express to Life', led by Nicola Archer (Regional Advisor for East of England) Heather Hansen (Regional Advisor for Wales) and Geraldine Yates (Regional Advisor for North East, Yorkshire & Humber).

Stories have the power to captivate, connect and inspire. In RE/RVE, they can help children encounter big ideas, explore diverse worldviews and make meaningful connections to their own lives. This session will explore how storytelling can support the Encounter, Experience, Express framework, helping children engage with theology, philosophy, values and lived experience in a way that is memorable, inclusive and meaningful.

Drawing on educational research and practical classroom examples, we will explore how storytelling can develop language, oracy, empathy and critical thinking, while supporting learners’ understanding of identity, belonging and Cynefin.

We’ll explore:

  • Why storytelling is such a powerful tool for learning and what the research tells us about its impact on children’s development.
  • How stories can support the Encounter, Experience and Express framework in RE/RVE.
  • Practical storytelling approaches that help children explore religious and non-religious worldviews, including examples from Sanatana Dharma and Humanism.
  • How the use of open-ended wondering questions can encourage curiosity, reflection and meaningful dialogue.
  • Whether you’re new to using storytelling in RE/RVE or looking for fresh ideas to deepen engagement and discussion, this session will provide practical strategies that can be taken straight back to the classroom.

Who should attend: Primary teachers, RE/RVE leads, curriculum leaders, subject co-ordinators, ECTs and anyone interested in using storytelling to create rich and engaging learning experiences

This webinar will go live on the 19th October at 3:45pm.
